Simple One Gen 2 Launched at ₹1.40 Lakh

Simple Energy has launched the Simple One Gen 2 version of its flagship electric scooter, the Simple One, with prices starting at ₹1.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). Instead of a complete overhaul, the Gen 2 focuses on refining the outgoing model with targeted hardware, performance and software upgrades, while also introducing a new long-range Ultra variant that will be priced later.

What’s new in the Simple One Gen 2

The Simple One Gen 2 scooter brings several structural and ride-related changes aimed at improving real-world usability. Simple Energy says the frame joints have been optimised for better rigidity, which should translate into more predictable handling. Battery crash zones have been reinforced, suspension has been retuned and a new tyre compound has been introduced to improve stability at higher speeds.

Seat height has been lowered by 16mm, making the scooter more accessible for a wider range of riders. The seat itself now uses firmer foam, which should offer better support over longer rides.

Battery options and performance details

The updated Simple One Gen 2 is offered with multiple battery configurations. The higher-spec variants use a new 5kWh battery pack that is lighter and more energy-dense than before. Battery weight has dropped from 34kg to 30kg, helping overall efficiency. With this setup, the motor produces 8.8kW of peak power and 72Nm of torque.

Simple claims an IDC range of 265km for the 5kWh variant, while a 4.5kWh option delivers a claimed 236km. Both variants sprint from 0–40kmph in 2.55 seconds, an improvement over the earlier model, and top speed has increased to 115kmph.

The entry-level Simple OneS continues with a 3.7kWh battery, offering a claimed 190km IDC range. This version uses a less powerful motor producing 6.4kW and 52Nm, positioning it as a more affordable option for city-focused buyers.

Simple One Ultra: focus on maximum range

Alongside the launch, Simple Energy showcased the new Simple One Ultra. This variant features a larger 6.5kWh battery and claims an IDC range of 400km, the highest figure announced by the company so far. Acceleration from 0–40kmph is quoted at 2.77 seconds. Pricing for the Ultra has not yet been disclosed, indicating it will sit above the current Gen 2 lineup.

Software updates and new features

The Simple One Gen 2 scooters debut updated software based on SimpleOS. Two new riding modes have been added: EcoX and SonicX. EcoX dynamically adjusts output based on riding patterns to maximise range, while SonicX unlocks full performance, including the 115kmph top speed.

Other additions include four traction modes, four levels of regenerative braking, dual-mode cruise control for highway and city use, hill-hold assist, vehicle fall cut-off and emergency braking lights. These features are aimed at improving safety and rider confidence in varied conditions.

Higher variants get a 7-inch touchscreen TFT display, while the OneS uses a non-touch 7-inch TFT. Both offer light and dark display modes. Storage remains practical with 35 litres of under-seat space, a front glovebox and a USB charging port.

Pricing and ownership angle

Prices for the Simple One Gen 2 range start at ₹1.40 lakh for the Simple OneS, ₹1.70 lakh for the 4.5kWh variant and ₹1.78 lakh for the 5kWh version. All scooters are available in Sonic Red, Aero X and Asphalt X colour options.

A key announcement is the introduction of a lifetime warranty across the Gen 2 lineup. This move is likely aimed at addressing long-term ownership concerns around battery durability and reliability, an important factor for electric scooter buyers in India.

What this means for buyers

With the Simple One Gen 2 update, Simple Energy is clearly targeting improved ride quality, stronger performance and better long-term ownership confidence rather than radical design changes. The wider battery options and the upcoming Ultra variant also give buyers more flexibility depending on range and budget needs.

As the electric scooter market becomes increasingly competitive, these updates position the Simple One Gen 2 as a more mature and feature-rich offering in the premium EV scooter space.
