Mercedes-Benz has launched the locally assembled Mercedes Maybach GLS in India at an ex-showroom price of ₹2.75 crore, making the ultra-luxury SUV significantly more affordable than before. The earlier fully imported (CBU) version was priced at ₹3.17 crore, translating to a price reduction of ₹42 lakh with local assembly.
Alongside the standard model, the company has also introduced a Maybach GLS Celebration Edition, priced at ₹4.10 crore (ex-showroom, India), positioned as a more exclusive, limited-run variant.

India joins exclusive Maybach production markets
With this launch, India becomes the only market outside the United States to locally assemble the Maybach GLS. Mercedes-Benz also confirmed that India has entered the top five global Mercedes Maybach GLS markets for the first time, underlining the brand’s growing ultra-luxury customer base in the country.
According to the manufacturer, local assembly will not only reduce prices but also improve availability and shorten delivery timelines—an important factor for buyers in this segment, where waiting periods can stretch for months.
Revised pricing structure

The move to local assembly has brought a clear shift in pricing:
- Mercedes Maybach GLS: ₹2.75 crore (earlier ₹3.17 crore)
- Price difference: ₹42 lakh
- Mercedes-Maybach GLS Celebration Edition: ₹4.10 crore
All prices are ex-showroom, India.
Powertrain remains unchanged
Despite the price drop, there are no mechanical compromises. The India-made Mercedes Maybach GLS continues with the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The engine produces 557hp, while the integrated starter-generator adds an additional 22hp boost.
Total system torque stands at 770Nm, with power sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Mercedes claims a 0-100kph time of 4.9 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 250kph—figures that place it firmly among the fastest luxury SUVs on sale in India.
Design focused on presence and exclusivity
Visually, the Mercedes Maybach GLS remains unmistakable. It features a large chrome-heavy grille with vertical slats and Maybach branding, flanked by LED projector headlamps. Chrome detailing extends to the bumper, window surrounds and D-pillar badging.
In profile, the SUV rides on imposing 23-inch forged alloy wheels, while the rear gets wraparound LED tail-lamps and quad exhaust outlets, reinforcing its luxury-first identity rather than overt sportiness.
Rear-seat luxury takes priority inside
The cabin layout remains a strict five-seater configuration, emphasising rear-seat comfort. The dashboard features dual 12.3-inch digital displays, while the second row gets two dedicated 11.6-inch entertainment screens.
Key highlights include a 29-speaker Burmester sound system, four-zone climate control, powered sunblinds, dual wireless phone chargers and a panoramic sunroof. Rear passengers also get a 9.6-litre refrigerated compartment integrated into the centre armrest, along with ventilated and powered seats—features aimed squarely at chauffeur-driven buyers.
Safety and driver assistance

On the safety front, the Maybach GLS is equipped with a full ADAS suite, a 360-degree camera with transparent bonnet function, auto-parking assistance and tyre pressure monitoring. These systems are now increasingly expected even in ultra-luxury vehicles sold in India.
Position in the Indian luxury market
With local assembly bringing prices down, the Mercedes Maybach GLS strengthens its position as a comparatively more accessible alternative to rivals like the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls‑Royce Cullinan.
Conclusion
The launch of the India-made Mercedes Maybach GLS marks an important milestone for both Mercedes-Benz and the Indian luxury car market. By localising production without altering the vehicle’s mechanical or feature set, the brand has made its flagship SUV more attainable while signalling strong confidence in sustained demand for ultra-luxury vehicles in India.
